Concrete Placement for Neutralization Building - Vale Inco Long Harbour Project
In February 2010, H.J. O’Connell Construction Ltd. was awarded the concrete placement for the Neutralization building associated with the Vale Inco Nickel Processing Plant project.
This project entails the construction of the building footings, piers, equipment tank pads and grade walls to house all the machinery and equipment to be used in the processing of ore from the Voisey’s Bay mine site.
This project will require 23,000 m3 of concrete, approximately 25,000 square meters of formwork and 2000 metric tonnes of reinforcing steel to be used in the construction of the building foundations. The estimated duration of the contract is expected to take 18-20 months to complete. The project started in March 2010 and O’Connell personnel have already been successful in completing a major concrete pour milestone ahead of time by 2 days.
