Demolition and Foundation work for New Maintenance Facility
In May 2000, the Iron Ore Company of Canada awarded a contract to H.J. O'Connell Construction to partially demolish their existing maintenance facility and construct the foundation for a new maintenance facility. The project involved the installation of temporary services, demolition of a wash bay, tractor shop, hose repair shop, lunch room and the excavation and removal of contaminated soil as well as, clearing, grubbing, site grading, backfill, concrete footings, walls and floor slabs. Approximately 2000 m3 of concrete were placed for this work. This work also included the installation of a new septic tank and distribution system. Demolition work and construction had to take place while a portion of the maintenance garage was kept in operation.
